Free Write
While analyzing In Focus, I realized the power that photographs give to an article. Photographs of devastation to photographs of bliss, the element of photography evokes feelings of personal connection. The simplicity of the article associated with the photographs allows readers to construct their own opinions of the situations. The freedom given to readers in The Focus is rare in todays society of right or wrong with the lack of a middle ground. The ability to formulate ones own opinions is an essential part of ones emotional attachment. Forming ones opinion with information that is provided without a one sided argument allows the reader to form a more solid opinion with personal reasons backing ones argument rather than relying on other authors opinions and arguments.

ReplyDeleteWhat blog is the author analyzing?
-The Focus
What point do you see the author making about that blog? Summarize it in your own words.
-The point the author is making is that through the use of pictures on The Focus, the audience is able to form their own opinions.
What do you find most interesting about what the author’s saying about the blog?
-I find it most interesting that the author talks about the freedom that The Focus provides. Instead of forming an opinion that the blog wants the audience to have, the reader is willing to choose for him/herself.
What suggestions can you give the author to help her/him develop her/his thesis?
-My only suggestion would be to free write more. It really helps to be able to see what you think, and writing down your thoughts is a good way to do that.
What do you think is the most useful/interesting evidence the author is using from her/his chosen artifacts?
-The most useful evidence that the author has collected so far is again, the pictures. It is good that the author has already recognized that the site uses pictures to allow the audience to form their own opinions. Pictures help create stronger and more individual opinions.
How could she/he develop more effective evidence from her/his artifacts?
-It would help to use a specific article instead of the whole blog. Doing this would show the pros and cons of this blog.
Excellent work, both of you!
